"Killed in Action '
Taken from the 'Bundaberg Mail': The sad tidings were last evening conveyed to Mrs Nix, sen Bundaberg, that her fourth son Captain John Edward Nix, had been killed in action in France, on the 5th. November, the date on which the British made such signal success and brought about the discomfiture ofthe enemy.
Captain Nix, who was 25 years of age, had twice gained promotion on the field of battle. He was appointed to the 25th Battalion, and had seen a large amount of action service in Egypt, Gallipoli and France. Prior to enlisting he was on the literary staff of the 'Townsville Star,' and was well and favorably known in Charters Towers and Townsville. Captain Nix has two brothers in France doing their duty to the Empire, while the remaining brother, Staff Sergeant-Major H. J. Nix, is on the instructional staff at Seymour, Victoria. Mrs Nix, sen., is well known to many on the Allyn and Williams Rivers, being a daughter of the late Henry Jarrett, of Allyn Vale, Eccleston, and the deceased soldier's late father belonged to the Stroud side, where his daughter, Mrs H. M. Margery, and his sister, Mrs John Bowden, reside.
