Distinguished Conduct Medal
'During the period 26 March to 16 September, 1918, he has consistently done gallant and conscientious work, both in the forward area and when out of the line. While acting as regimental sergeant major during one operation, he showed great gallantry and determination in getting supplies of ammunition forward, in spite of heavy shelling, and at all other times as company sergeant major he has been of the greatest assistance to his company commander. He has always set a splendid example of gallantry and leadership to the men.'
