Walter Richards, 19 May 1894 in Ballarat, Presbyterian, Government Servant, 11 Belmont Avenue, Kew, Victoria, 22, Single, Next of Kin, Mother, Mrs. G. Richards, Sebastopol via Ballarat. Previous service 4 years Private, Corporal, Sergeant and 10 Month’s commissioned service as Orderly Officer 16th Infantry Brigade. OC ‘X’ Squadron, Staff Officer Records and Camp Adjutant, Braodmeadows. Enlisted 8 March 1916 as 2nd Lieutenant. 1 May 1916, appointed Transport Officer, 39th Battalion. 4 August 1917, Wounded in Action, Gunshot Wound right leg. Promoted to Lieutenant 7 October 1917. Temporary Captain 6 April to 1 May 1918 while OC A Company. Wounded in Action, 2nd occasion on 1 May 1918, gunshot wound right arm. Returned to Australia 24 August 1918. Disembarked 24 October 1918. Appointment terminated 10 April 1919.
