Memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 9th June 1917, Private Thomas Kane, 35th Battalion (Reg No-131), screener from Waratah Street, Kahibah, New South Wales, was Killed in Action during the Battle of Messines, Belgium, age 22 years 6 months. Cause of death not stated.

No Roll of Honour circular submitted.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.
Born at Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland about 1895 to David (died 30.8.1912, as CAIN, Charlestown, N.S.W., age 65, no death or funeral notice located) and Agnes Kane (remarried as Miller, died 28.5.1933, Charlestown, N.S.W. as Agnes Kane Miller, sleeping here with David, name not inscribed on headstone) of Wood Street, Redhead, N.S.W. Thomas enlisted on the 20th November 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.

Thomas is resting at the Strand Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot VIII Row L Grave 1.

Mr. Kane’s name has been inscribed on the Kahibah Roll of Honor. Name should have been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Kane gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Thomas for God, King & Country. CATHOLIC 1-F Spec. 73.
