Cardy, Albert Edward
Albert Edward CARDY 1886-1945
Albert Edward Cardy, enlisted for service in WW1. He died in 1945 in Williamstown, Melbourne.
AIF enlistment papers on 22 August 1917 state that he was Albert Edward Cardie (aka Arthur Cardie), born Putney, Surrey, in 1886.
He worked as a butcher and was married to Elsie Vernetta Cardy, his next of kin. His father’s name was Elijah Cardy.
He was 5’4” and weighed 114lbs. He served briefly in France after Armistice, having been suffering from bronchitis for most of his service. He spent time in Hurdcott (No. 3 Group Clearing Hospital, A.I.F.)
He was the brother of Lewis George Cardy who was killed n France in 1917 and who is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
Albert returned to Australia in 1919 and died In the Victorian Repatriation Hospital in 1945. He had 2 daughters and one son.

DEATHS Mr A. E. CARDY. We have to report the death of Mr Albert Edward Cardy, who passed away at the Repatriation Hospital.on 4th June at the age of 59 years. Deceased was born at London and had lived here for 30 years, his place of residence in North Williamstown being 1 Cerberus Cres. Deceased leaves a widow and two daughters and one son to mourn their loss. The deceased was a returned soldier and the coffin was draped with the Union Jack. The funeral took place on Wednesday from Nelson Bros. chapel, and the remains were interred in the Williamstown Cemetery in the presence of a large circle of relatives and friends. There was a large collection of magnificent floral tributes.
