Died on this date – 14th November…… Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper was born on 12th January, 1891. His birth was registered in the district of Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales.

Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 11th August, 1914 as a 23 year old, single, Clerk from North Sydney, NSW. He had served for 2 ½ years with Senior Cadets.

Private Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper was posted to “G” Company, Naval & Military Expeditionary Force on 11th August, 1914. He applied for a Commission in the Australian Expeditionary Force on 14th August, 1914 & was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 18th August, 1914.

He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on HMAT Berrima (A35) on 19th August, 1914 with Naval & Military Expeditionary Force – Tropical Unit (Service number 590) & was on active service in German New Guinea from August, 1914 to February, 1915.

On 1st January, 1915 Second Lieutenant Cooper was promoted to Lieutenant at Rabaul. (The Record of Service in the Field form recorded he was promoted to Lieutenant in November, 1914)

Lieutenant Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper’s appointment was terminated on 4th March, 1915 & he was discharged on 4th March, 1915 – termination of period of engagement. He was returned to Australia per Berrima.

Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper re-enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 13th May, 1918 as a 27 year old, single, Engineer from Manly, NSW.

He applied for a Commission in the Australian Imperial Force on 7th May, 1918 & was appointed Second Lieutenant on 13th May, 1918.

According to information provided by his father for the Roll of Honour - Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper had been a Commissioned Officer in Cadet Force (Captain). He had served as O.C. in Rutherford Military Camp & also Adjutant in Dubbo & Liverpool Camps.

From 17th July, 1918 Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper was posted to New South Wales 11th General Service Reinforcements.

Second Lieutenant Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on HMAT Borda (A30) on 17th July, 1918 with the 11th New South Wales Reinforcements & disembarked at London, England on 27th September, 1918.

He was appointed Lieutenant on 27th September, 1918 & was marched in to 5th Training Battalion at Fovant, Wiltshire, England on 28th September, 1918.

Lieutenant Cooper was on Command at School of Instruction at Jelllalabad Barracks, Tidworth, Wiltshire, England from 21st October, 1918.

On 31st October, 1918 Lieutenant Cooper was admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England. He was reported to be dangerously ill with Pneumonia on 2nd November, 1918 & seriously ill on 14th November, 1918.

Lieutenant Arthur Lionel Keith Cooper died at 02.50 on 14th November, 1918 at Tidworth Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England from Influenza & Pneumonia.

He was buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 172 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
