Francis Roy Williamson

FRANCIS ROY WILLIAMSON (1894-1923) born at Yass, son of Thomas Pye and Esther Elizabeth Mary Williamson nee Passmore. He enlisted in the 3rd Regiment, 55th Battalion, 14th Brigade as Lance Corporal 1988 on November 24th, 1915. He was firstly received at Goulburn Depot after serving 4 years with the Seniors Cadets and Infantry. The 55th Battalion embarked on HMAT SS Barambah A 37 at Sydney on June 23rd, 1916 and they entered camp at Salisbury on August 26th. He embarked on the Princess Henrietta at Folkestone on December 3rd, 1916. Promoted to Lance Corporal on October 7th, 1917. Roy was wounded in October 1918 while serving in Bullecourt, France and sent to the Duchess of Connaught Red Cross Hospital with a penetrating Guns Shot Wound in the chest and shoulder. He was repatriated to Australia on December 13th, 1918 on the Karoola and returned to his family in Yass. He never fully recovered and this ultimately caused his death.
