Thomas was born in Townsville on 8 Aug 1888, son of Henry Andrew Carroll and Minnie Mary Alice Clarke.

Private Carroll enlisted in Townsville on 11 Jan 1918 and embarked from Sydney per RMS “Osterley” on 8 May 1918. He served on the Western Front with the 41st Battalion AIF.  He returned to Australia (medically unfit for duty) on 18 Dec 1918 and discharged on 3 Mar 1919. He died 1 Sep 1952. He was a saddler.
