Son of William Semmens and Katie Semmens nee Lawry of Iris Road, Hawthorn, Victoria. Brother of Joseph Frederick Semmens who returned to Australia on 12 April 1919 having served with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade and Phillip Grenfell Semmens
