Genealogy/life of Joseph Brindley Gee
Joseph Brindley Gee was born in Kimberley, South Africa 30 November 1892 the son of Joseph Brindley Gee Snr and Annie Elizabeth Gee (nee Oldacre). When his father and mother came to Australia with Joseph's brother in law, he stayed and joined up.
His parents had emigrated to South Africa in ealry 1890's with a cargo of clay from Staffordshire with the intention to commence a Pottery a venture which was shortlived and JG Gee snr reverted to his previous occupation of a Saddler and worked for de Beers
A Boilermaker by Trade, JB Gee had worked at de Beer's Diamond Mine in Kimberley as had his father (a Saddler). Gee was a member of 3rd Pioneer battalion (reinforcement 5) and was in France after enlisting September 1916 leaving Sydney 9 November 1916 on the ship 'Benalla'.
He was gassed during a battle and returned to Australia in Jan 1918. He suffered from this gassing for the rest of his life - dying 1963.
