Add my storyBiography contributed by Faithe Jones
On return to Australia after the war, Matt returned to Winton and worked for the Mitchell and Banning families, and was droving down the Bulloo River, where he contracted typhoid fever which left him with a weak heart. While caretaking at Strathbowen Station he died and was buried on the bank of the dam on 15th November 1954.
His remains were later exhumed and buried in the RSL Section of the Winton Cemetery 18 June 1956.
Those who knew Matt daken, remembered him as a good man in the bush, a reliable stockman, and with a rifle in his hands, would have been a great asset to his mates during the war.
