Clarence Sasfield JOYCE was born in Charleville, Queensland on 25th September, 1893

His parents were Patrick JOYCE & Adelaide TOOVEY who married in Maryborough, Queensland on 23rd December, 1876

He enlisted in Brisbane on 15th August, 1916 and embarked from Brisbane with the 25th Infantry Battalion, 17th reinforcements on the HMAT Marathon on 27th October, 1916

Clarence was Killed in Action in France on 6th May, 1917 - no known grave - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Villers Bretonneux Memorial.

His brother Horace Toovey JOYCE (SN 2678) also served during WW1 and was Killed in Action in 1917
