Report Of Trooper Pountney's death
The report of Trooper Pountney's death is recorded in Trove
24 Jul 1915 - DIED OF WOUNDS. TROOPER LESLIE R. POUNTNEY.
The reference is http:// trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article119151388
Trooper Pountney was a native of Port Macquarie, NSW.
He has been in Queensland, obtaining pastoral experience , when he joined the 5th Light Horse.
He was wounded at Gallipoli in late June 1915 and died of wounds 8th July 1915.
His brother Rupert was also fighting at Gallipoli and had informed their parents by telegram that Leslie had been slightly wounded and not to worry.
His parents then received the official advice of his death, nominating the wrong service number , so followed a long and no doubt traumatic period whilst verification was sought.
He was 26 years old when he died.
