Theophilus Clyde 'Theo' Jones was born in Ballarat and was a 20-year-old single Saddler when he enlisted in Ballarat on 13 August 1915. He had previous service in Ballarat West’s 71st Infantry Cadets and the ASC. His service commenced on 18 August and he was promoted to Corporal when officially transferred to 18 Coy. He embarked on the HMAT A41 Bakara and in Egypt on 3 March 1916 was transferred to the new 28 Coy where he was promoted to Saddler Staff Sergeant on 1 April. He embarked on the Troopship Orita for RTA on 23 June 1919, disembarked in Melbourne on 6 August and was discharged on 29 September 1919 at his Termination of his Period of Enlistment.
