William's parents were William and Charlotte Walsh who owned the Scarborough Hotel. He attended Humpybong State School and later married Annis Aitken in 1909. William was aged 36 and was a Driver at the time of his enlistment in September 1914. A younger brother, Robert Arnold [1785] enlisted 9 months later. William and Annis moved to South Brisbane after the war.
