Private James Robbie Waugh enlisted into the 9/5 Battalion Pioneers on the 13th of October 1916 and after training left Adelaide on the ‘Seang Bee’ on the 10th February 1917 arriving at Davenport on the 2nd May 1917.
Private James Robbie Waugh one month later was at Bulford. He was then transferred to Sutton Veny; these were camps in which the A.I.F. soldiers trained prior to departing for France.
On the 17th of November 1917 Private James Robbie Waugh was transferred to Artillery and mustered to Gunner.
Early in January 1918 Private James Robbie Waugh developed Bronchial Pneumonia and some four months later was returned to Australia, arriving on the 4th of September 1918.
Private James Robbie Waugh was medically discharged on the 16th of December 1918 and was honoured with the British War Medal.
Private James Robbie Waugh passed away on the 10th of June 1977, aged 82 and now lies at rest within the gates of the Kalangadoo Cemetery.
