Enlisted in the AIF as Charles William Yates as he was a deserter

Son of Francis Alfred Tighe and Violet Laura Tighe nee Grant of Madras, India.

Next of kin given as E. MacIntosh of Boundary Street, Brisbane, QLD

A letter from the War Office, London, England dated July 1915 referred to Charles stating that he had deserted from the 1st Life Guards Household Cavalry Corps where he served under the name of Eric Frank Willie Tighe, service number 9497. The Commanding Officer of the 1st Life Guards Household Cavalry Corps reported that there wasn't evidence that he was ever part of that unit
