George Edward RICHARDSON (Service Number 198) was born in Islington, a suburb of Newcastle, on 8th August 1891. He joined the Tramways in Newcastle as a temporary labourer on the permanent way in July 1914, and was made permanent in December 1915. In January 1916 he was released from duty to join the AIF in Newcastle.
He was allotted to the 35th Battalion (‘Newcastle’s Own’). He embarked from Sydney in May 1916 and was landed in England in July.
In November he was sent to France.
On 25th March 1917 was killed in action. He is buried in the Cité Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentières.
A war pension was granted by the authorities to his father.
