"WELCOMES TO SOLDIERS. SEVERAL HOME-COMINGS.
On reaching Melbourne after 3½ years service in the war Mr Claude Skewes, formerly of the Newport workshops, son of Mr John Skewes, of the Railway Department, Ballarat East, was welcomed by Mr and Mrs E. Penhalluriack, of Elsternwick, and formerly of Ballarat East, and given a reception at their home on Tuesday. Mr Penhalluriack accompanied Mr Skewes to Ballarat on Wednesday night when a gathering of friends greeted the latter at his parents’ home, Mr Carnell presiding. The home coming festivity was on enjoyable one, the home being suitably decorated and the refreshments choice and plentiful." - from the Ballarat Star 08 Aug 1919 (nla.gov.au)
