Residents of the Shepparton district have lost a well known and highly respected citizen in Mr. Charles Whyte, who died on Wednesday morning at the age of 55. He leaves a wife and four children, to whom ihe sympathy of many friends is extended. The deceased was a fruitgrower in the Shepparton East area, where he settled after the war, in which he served in the 8th Battalion of the A.I.F. He was a valued member of the Shepparton and Settlements branch of the R.S.L., and many returned soldiers from all parts marched in  front of the hearse at the funeral, which took place yesterday afternoon to the Shepparton cemetery.
The returned soldiers' ritual was read at the graveside by Mr. L. J. Michel, president of the Shepparton and Settlements Branch of the R.S.L., and Mr. W. S. Clayton, the secretary.  Rev. Ambrose May conducted the funeral service. The coffin bearers were Messrs H. C. Sutherland, J. O'Callaghan, H. Allan, A, W. Brain, V. E. Mills, and L, Ebbott, while Messrs Geo Brown-Shepherd, C. H.
