Personal Life
In January 1891 David Vallance was born in the town of Minmi NSW, born to his father Alexander Vallance. During his late teens David took up an apprenticeship with the Pacific Coal Corporation in NSW for 5 years, he later moved to Hobart Tasmania. Before the war, David Vallance was a Mining Surveyor and Draughtsman. His family’s religion was Presbyterian. Prior to his enlistment David was neither engaged nor married. However, he might have been in a relationship.
During Service
On the 6th of October 1916, David enlisted, he was enrolled into the Field Artillery unit. At the time of his enlistment, he was 25 years and 9 months old. The same day he was relocated to the F.A. Reinforcements, Maribyrnong. Two weeks passed, and his unit was named: 15th F.A.R - 9th Brigade. On the 23rd of December, his troop left Melbourne on a ship to Plymouth, England. They arrived in Plymouth on the 17th of February 1917. While in Plymouth David was promoted to the rank of Driver the day after arriving. In Southampton, England, the 15th F.A.R. was approved to be transferred to France. 22nd of August the 15th F.A.R - 9th Brigade arrived in France. After almost a year of active service, David received his final payment of the British forces on the 2nd of June 1918. He was later discharged from the Australian Army on the 25th of September 1919.
After the War
Soon after the war, David returned from France to go back to his family in Australia.
