Campaigns Served:   Western Front

War Service/Promotions:   Disembarked, Devonport, Plymouth, Devon, England, on 30 January 1917 and marched into Aust. Dtls, 6 & 7 Camp, Perham Downs, Salisbury Plains, Wiltshire, England. On 9 February 1917, he marched in to Australian Engineers Training Depot, Brightlingsea, Essex, England. On 15 May 1917, he proceeded overseas to France via Folkestone Kent, England. On 28 May 1917 Taken on Strength 2nd Field Company Engineers ex Reinforcements from Australian General Base Depot, Etaples, France. Wounded in action 9 October 1917, Ypres, Belgium, with gunshot wound to left buttock (initially reported slight, but wound was deep, later reports were severe). Embarked HS St Andrew, admitted to Edmonton Military Hospital, Edmonton, London, England, 17 October 1917. Transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, London, England, 24 October 1917. On 12 December detached to No 2 Depot, Weymouth, Dorset, England, where he awaited return to Australia, unfit for military service for 6 months.

Place of Wounding:   Gunshot wound, left hip and left buttock (severe), 9 October 1917, Ypres, Belgium.

Fate:   Returned to Australia per HT Corinthic, 10 January 1918, transhipped to SS Port Darwin, 4 March 1918, disembarking 4 April 1918, Sydney, NSW. He never married.

Place of Death:   9 November 1953, Sydney, NSW

Place of Cremation:   Northern Suburbs Crematorium, North Ryde, NSW, and is buried in Armidale Cemetery, Armidale, NSW
