VACANCIES FOR CHEMISTS. 

MELBOURNE July 7, 1917

Vacancies exist for fifty qualified chemists for for service in the Imperial Army. Those accepted will be given the rank of staff sergeant with pay at A.I.F. rates, and will be attached for duty In India or an adjoining country.

The local military authorities invite applications, from registered pharmacists who are willing to join the A.I.F. for service with the Imperial authorities in India. All applicants must comply with the A.M.C. standard for the A.I.F. and produce evidence of their competency and reliability. Successful applicants will be given the rank of staff sergeant, and will be entitled to pay und allowances accordingly. Applications should be sent as soon as possible to the Principal Medical Officer, Victoria Barracks, Brisbane.

The following is a description of the Tasmanian contingent:

"Chemists' Corps for India musters at Town Hall:
Five qualified chemists who have been selected for service with the Indian Medical Service, attended together at the Town Hall Recruiting Depot., and were sworn in for service yesterday. 

These men are to form part of a corps of chemists who are to be attached to the British Army Medical Service In India, 
Their names are as follow:-—

Harold Edwin Bailey, 26, of 103-Chapol street, Praliran; Henry Francis Ackary, 35, of 62 High street, Northcote; Stanley William Ponting, 24, of Warrnambool;
Alexander F. Turner; 22, of 216 Cemp street, Croxton,  and William. H. Pinches, 26, of 7 Hamilton street, Mount
Albert.
They are all well set up young men of good appearance, and are evidently keen on seeing service."


Alexander's attestation Form was dated 3rd September 1917 in Brisbane and on 7th September 1917, he embarked on the H.M.A.T. "Kyara" from Melbourne, bound for Bombay, India, along with 49 other chemists from all over Australia.
