John Wright was born in 1871, in Keighley, Yorkshire. At age 34 John Wright enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. At first he was in the 27th Battalion but was soon transferred to the 10th Battalion.

John Wright was married to Mary-Elizabeth Wright and had one child, named Robert. John Wrights family were very religious, and at a young age he occasionaly went to the church of England.

Soon after arriving in France John was badly wounded in the back, on 20 June 1916. This wound did not improve and he was sent home to Australian in 1917. John Wright was discharged on the 7th of June, 1917 for being medically unfit.

Soon after his death, he was buried in the AIF Cemetary, West terrace, South Australia.
