From the Braidwood Dispatch and Mining Journal, 16 Nov 1917:
Private Stoyles is the third son of Mr. G. C. Stoyles, of 'The Ranch,' Braidwood. He enlisted as a member of Carmichael's Riflemen's Battalion in April,1916, but he was unable to leave with it owing to the tent which he occupied being quarantined at the time of departure in consequence of an outbreak of fever in the vicinity. He left afterwards as a member of the 35th Battalion. He arrived in England early, in January of this year, and
was subsequently transferred to the 4th Battalion. He has been in the firing line for some time now. Private Stoyles is a good rifle shot, and was a member of
the Braidwood Rifle Club.
