Winton Merlin LANGTRY was born in 1897 in Nhill, Victoria
His parents were Samuel LANGTRY and Louisa REED
He had previous service of 4 years in the senior cadets before he enlisted on 28th April, 1915 with the Australian Army - he was with the 38th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board RMS Orontes on 16th August, 1915
He was an Acting Corporal on enlistment and later reverted to rank of Private
Winton was Killed in Action in Belgium on 4th October 1917 aged 20 years and was buried near where he fell. Following the Armistice his remains were exhumed and reinterred in the Tyne Cot cemetery, Belgium - he is also honoured on the Australian War Memorial
He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
His brother Corporal Leslie Reed Langtry, 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment was also Killed in Action on 4th December, 1917 in Belgium
