Alfred Sargison METCALF was born on 6th September, 1874 in Longbenton, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England
His parents were William METCALF & Sarah Ann HALL who married on 25th December, 1869 in Northumberland
He enlisted in Randwick, Sydney on 29th August, 1914 and embarked with the 1st Infantry Battalion, E Company from Sydney on the HMAT Afric on 18th October, 1914
Alfred was Killed in Action at Gallipoli on 19th May, 1915 and is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery
His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
