The death occurred at Framlingham, Warrnambool, of Mr. Richard Vincent McGinness, popularly known as "R.V." He was found unconscious and badly injured lying on the roadside, and it is believed that he was thrown from a horse he was earlier seen riding. Deceased was one of the outstanding amateur horsemen of this State. He rode innumerable winners  on the flat and over jumps in Victoria and other States. For many years he rode regularly at the Warrnambool Amateur Turf Club's meetings and recorded unique success. His last ride before his retirement was in the Amateur Turf Club's Hurdle Race at the club's winter meeting in 1920. It was a winning ride and racegoers will long remember the ovation  that was accorded him as he rode his mount Barlow home. As a young man he engaged in various branches of athletic sport and played football with district clubs. It could be said of the late Mr. McGinness that he was a true sportsman. He also served in the Great War of 1914-18, and in later years was a member of the Warrnambnol Shire Council, representing the east riding.
