Son of James Buckley of the Mansion House Hotel, George Street, Sydney; brother of Edward Alton Buckley who was killed in action on 4 April 1918 at Villers-Bretonneux while serving with the 35th Battalion, W.C. Buckley and Nellie Carmichael (nee Buckley)

10 June 1917 - transferred from the 34th Battalion to the 1st Battalion
