Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Joseph BRENNAN, (Service Number 6662) was born in Tipperary, Ireland, in 1890. He joined the NSWGR as a labourer in the Permanent Way Branch on the Western Division in 1912, and in 1913 became a fettler working between Dubbo and Nyngan. At the end of 1913 he transferred to the Byrock – Brewarrina area, and in March 1915 to Dubbo – Coonamble. He enlisted in the AIF at Casula in December 1915.
Sent via Egypt to France with reinforcements for the Australian Engineers, and landing in France in June 1916, he joined his unit in August. He was wounded in action on 8 January 1917, died of his wounds on 10 January, and was buried at Heilly sur Somme Cemetery, 2½ miles NNE of Corbie.
