648 Pte James Bernard Mooney (37 Btn AIF) was born in Warrnambool, Victoria and was a mechanic when he enlisted on 5.2.1916 aged 24 & nine months. His next of kin was his father, in Bairnsdale but he later married and his NOK became his wife, living in Collingwood, Vic. Departed Melb on 5.6.1916 on HMAT34 'Persic'. Arrived in France 22.11.1916. Killed in Action, Belgium 12.10,1917. Buried in the field but grave later lost. Attended Bairnsdale Convent School & Paynesville State School. An Uncle, 963 Pte W.W. Oakley 37 Bn was KIA 18.6.1918, from Paynesville, Vic. His brother-in-law 11832 Dvr G.H. Evans AFA was KIA 11.10.1918
