Harry BROKENSHIRE was born on 6th December, 1899 in Moonta, South Australia
His parents were Nicholas George BROKENSHIRE and Catherine Carthew MINERS
He had 4 years previous service in the senior cadets and was still serving when he enlisted on 6th July 1917 with the Australian Army - he was with the 32nd Battalion, 14th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Ulysses on 22nd December, 1917 -After arriving in France in late May, 1918 he transferred to the 50th Battalion
Harry was Killed In Action on 13th September, 1918 In the Field in France during the allied advance to the Hindenburg line and is buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery, France - hs is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial and a Memorial plaque at Moonta Cemetery - he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
His brother William James ( 10th Battalion) was also killed in action at Lone Pine , Gallipoli on 6th August, 1915 and another brother Percy (50th Battalion) returned to Australia in June 1919

Private Harry Brokenshire of the 50th Battalion, youngest son of Mrs. N. G. Brokenshire of Moonta was killed in action in France on Sept. 18. He was two months short of his 19th birthday and he left Adelaide for the front on December last. An older brother Will was killed on Gallipoli in August 1915 and another brother Sergeant Percy Brokenshire also of the 50th Battalion and one of the original Anzacs is still at the front. Private Brokenshire was greatly respected in Moonta.
