He was 23 and the son of Fanny Miriam Harbeck, of Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Australia, and the late Peter Harbeck.

KILLED IN ACTION AT THE DARDANELLES, MAY 25, 1915.
Private Harbeck was the forth son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Harbeck, of Lakes Entrance. He joined the First Expeditionary Force and was enrolled in the Sixth Battalion. Before leaving Egypt for the fighting line, he had undergone nine months of strenuous training and was in perfect health. He was a fine type of young man, 23 years of age.

NOTE: The spelling of the Family name was incorrectly transcribed on the Embarkation Roll. The spelling on the Memorial has been corrected to accord with the Family name as presented in the Service Record - HARBECK. VWMA Chief Moderator January 2018.

Two of Pte Harbeck's brothers also served overseas during the First World War. 123 Sergeant Albert Roy Harbeck, 39th Battalion, died of wounds in Ploegsteert, Belgium, on 1 May 1917. A third brother 2nd Lieutenant Reginald Peter Harbeck, having enlisted in 1914, returned to Australia in 1919 in the 2nd Signal Squadron.
