Biography contributed by Willunga High School

Arthur Roy Lipson was born on May 1891, in a small country town called Willunga. Arthur had a wife named Marjorie. He enlisted on May 1916 to the Austrailan Imperial Force. Arthur and the 27th Infantry Batallion embarked on the 12th of August 1916.

Biography contributed by Peter Cates

Arthur married Marjorie Esther Leach in 1915 and was living in Parkside when he enlisted the following year at the age of 25. He had a fresh complexion, stood 5'7" (170cm) tall and weighrd 140lbs (64Kg).

While serving in France he received an accidental gunshot wound to the wrist on 16 May 1917, possibly due to a problem with the rifle itself which burst. When Arthur was on his way home after the war was over, he was promoted to Temporary Sergeant on transport duty.

Arthur lived to the age of 83. After he died at his Norwood home he was cremated and his ashes immurred at Centennial Park together with those of his wife who had died four years earlier.
