PRIVATE F. R. GREEN (IONA)
KILLED IN ACTION.
The sad intimation was received last week of the death of Private Frank R. Green, who was killed in action at Bullecourt on the 12th May last. The deceased, who was 22 years of age, was deservedly popular throughout this and the surrounding districts, and the news of his death has been received with deep regret by a large circle of friends, to whom he had endeared, himself by his genial disposition and straightforwardness. During the celebration of Mass at Iona on Sunday morning last, in the presence of a large congregation, Rev. Fr. Cusack spoke feelingly, and referred to the sad news in the following words : —

Tomorrow morning, at 7.30, there will be offered a special Mass for the repose of the soul of Frank Green. This tribute, I consider is due to one who took, such a keen in terest in Church matters here ever since he was a boy. He never spared himself when any thing was being organised in connection with the church. He was always thoughtful and unselfish. He acted as secretary to the Catholic Federation, and in this he proved him self most efficient and painstaking. He was a dutiful son, and was ever attentive to his religious duties — to Mass. and the Sacraments. In this respect he was an object lesson to all the men in the parish, young and old. We all miss him very much, and my sympathy and, I am sure, that of the entire congregation, goes out to his dear mother, brothers and sisters, in their sorrow. I feel confident that his death, like his life, was a holy and a happy one. Yet let us pray that his Purgatory, if any may be short, and that God, in His mercy, will admit him to His home of eternal rest, light and peace. ' Rest in peace.'
