Thomas Crook was born in 1878 at Gumeracha in South Australia. He was educated at Forreston Primary School as a child. Thomas had 2 brothers and a sister. He married Evelyn Duryea in June 1912 and she was his nominated next of kin on his enlistment papers. Together they had 4 children – 3 boys and 1 girl. Before the war, he worked as a Fitter at the Wallaroo-Mount Lyell Company, Wallaroo.


Thomas joined the AIF on the 29th of May 1916. He was put in the 10th Battalion and left Australia on a ship called the Port Melbourne on October 23rd, 1916. He fought on the Western Front in France.


After the war, Thomas returned to Wallaroo. He lived with Evelyn until he died in 1934 when he was 56 years old.
