Son of James Ormerod and Emily Ormerod nee Forrest  of Accrington, Lancashire, England later of Beaufort Street, Perth, WA.

Brother of James Edward Ormerod who was killed in action on 30 September 1917 while serving with the 32nd Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gates, Ypres, Panel 23.

Husband of Rosina (Rose) Ormerod nee Redwood of Harvey, WA. John and Rose married during 1915c in Bunbury, WA.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 April 1918 aboard HT Dunluce Castle transhipped to HS Karoola leaving Suez on 27 April 1918
