Biography

Born and raised in England, Edward Pearce served for 3 years in the Royal Gloustershire Hussars before he came out to Australia at the age of 27, during 1910. He was farming at Roma when the war broke out. He was one of the first men from the district to enlist and joined the 2nd Light Horse. He left with the original Australian contingent during October 1914 and trained in Egypt until landed at Gallipoli. He was killed in action on the 7th August 1915. A comrade wrote, "He was one of the best chaps, he died as he had lived, an English gentleman till the last"

His brother, Lance Corporal Dudley Hogarth Pearce of the Royal Gloustershire Hussars was killed at not far away at Gallipoli, at Chocolate Hill, only 3 weeks later, 28th August 1915.
