Private Maurice Andclife Rix (Service No:956) enlisted in the AIF on 20 December 1915 and embarked from Sydney for Plymouth with 41st Infantry Battalion on board HMAT Demosthenes A64 on 18 May 1916. Private Rix served in France, where he suffered Shell Shock and was hospitalised in England before embarking for the RTA on 20 May 1919 on board HT Nestor. Private Rix was Discharged on 20 August 1919.
Born on 1891 at Lanefield, Ipswich QLD, Maurice Antcliff was the fifth of fourteen children of Alfred (Alf) Rix (b1859 in Warwickshire, England) and second wife Rosina Hillier (b1865 at Humpy Bong in Moreton Bay, QLD). Alf (a Gardener) immigrated in 1883, arriving in Moreton Bay on board the Scottish Hero. Alf worked as a Labourer in Lanefield, Ipswich before moving the family to Brisbane in the late 1890s - where he worked as a Labourer, Carrier and Salesman.
Maurice worked as a Sawyer in Brisbane before his enlistment in the AIF, and returned to Brisbane and work as a Sawyer following his Discharge in 1919. In 1923 in Brisbane, Maurice married Alice Louisa Wright (b1901 in Christchurch, New Zealand). The couple settled in Brisbane and Maurice joined QLD Government Railways in the 1920s - starting as a Bridge Carpenter's Apprentice and later as a Bridge Carpenter and Bridge Painter. Maurice died in 1976 and Alice in 1987.
