Son of Michael and Anne Amelia Carney, of Fernmount, Bellinger River, New South Wales.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN MOTHER

Fred was born 18 Dec 1885 in Fernmount, New South Wales, son of Michael and Ann Amelia (nee Bushell) Carney. A Salvation Army officer, at the People’s Palace in Townsville in 1915, he enlisted on 25 Jan 1915, and embarked with the 11th Light Horse Regiment aboard HMAT A7 “Medic” on 2 Jun 1915. A Lance Sergeant with the 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance AAMC, he served in Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine, and was Killed in Action at Beersheba on 1 Nov 1917 in the Third Battle of Gaza.  He is buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Palestine (Row A, Grave 57).
