John Alexander Wilson, known as Alex, Alec, Aleck was the second son of William and Elizabeth (HAMPSHIRE) WILSON of Mount Crawford, near Williamstown, South Australia. Listed as a blacksmith improver/shoeing smith, he left Brisbane 24th Sept. 1914 on the "Star of England" and landed at Alexandria. He saw action at Gallipoli, Suez, and Beersheba where he was wounded in the left arm and side.
He was promoted to Farrier Corporal 1916 and to Farrier Sgt. 1918.
He returned to Australia and subsequently moved to the Chinchilla district of Queensland where he became a peanut farmer with his older brother, Roy Wilson.
