Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Younger of the two brothers (William and George) who served in WWI, Private George Edward Osler (Service No:7063) enlisted in the AIF on 22 August 1916 with 22nd Depot Battalion, and was attached to 6th Infantry Battalion on 23 November 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Portsmouth on board HMAT A20 Hororata. Private Osler was WiA in France (GSW to right leg) on 4 October 1917 and invalided to hospital in England. On 30 January 1918 Private Osler embarked from England for Melbourne on board HT Euripides, and was attached to 6th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 15 June 1918.

George was born in Stawell, Victoria in 1896, youngest of seven children of Esket Osler (b1851 in Cambridgeshire, England) and Elizabeth Ann Sexton (b1854 in Avoca, Victoria). Esket immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1852, arriving in Port Phillip Bay on board the Persian. Esket worked as a Bootmaker in Wooroonook, Mt Jeffcott and Dooboobetic before he and Elizabeth married in 1878 in Avoca. The couple settled at Fyans Creek via Stawell, where they raised their family and Esket was a Bootmaker and then Farmer

George was a Labourer at Fyans Creek in 1916 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to Fyans Creek and in 1920 in Stawell married Maria Scarsi (b1891 at Fyans Creek via Stawell, Victoria). George and Maria settled at Fyans Creek, where they raised their family and George was a Bee Farmer. Maria died in 1947 and George in 1965.
