Husband of Josephine Fortesque TOMBS Of Cowper St, Waverley, NSW

William was born at Crumlin, South Wales, in January 1876, and came to Australia in 1899. He was connected with the advertising staff of the Sydney Morning Herald for some years prior to his enlistment.

Joining the Australian Imperial Force as a Private in March, 1916, he sailed with reinforcements for the 34th Battalion. Reaching France in April 1917, he saw fighting at Armentieres, Le Touquet, Passchendaele, Morlancourt, and from Villers Bretonneux to Bony. He attained the rank of Sergeant early in his military career, and finally acted as Quartermaster Sergeant.

TOMBS.—April 20, 1945, at Sydney Hospital, William Henry Tombs, of 44B Elizabeth Street, Artarmon (late of Sydney Morning Herald), dearly loved husband of Josephine.

TOMBS - The Funeral of the late William Henry Tombs, of 44b Elizabeth Street, Artarmon (late of Sydney Morning Herald) will leave Ernest Andrews Chapels, corner pacific Highway and Thomas Street, Chatswood, This Day, after service commencing at 9.45 a.m. for the Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
