Personal Stories
Recommendation for DCM by Lt Col Goddard
On the night of 13 October 1917 when in charge of number 4 section Brigade Group Transport, this soldier was cut off from the forward section by heavy shell fire. One animal loaded with barbed wire was blown on top of Craven and he was severely bruised about the head. He was ordered to the dressing station but remained and he reorganised his section and got it forward to the dump. He displayed remarkable courage, skill and determination.
