Private Gabriel McIlroy was born at Charters Towers, Queensland in 1878. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 3rd January, 1916 as a 37 year old, single, Labourer from Charters Towers, Queensland.

Private McIlroy arrived in England on 10th January, 1917 on HMAT Boonah (A36) & was posted to 4th Training Battalion at Codford, Wiltshire. He was admitted sick to Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire on 17th February, 1917 with mumps.

Private McIlroy died at 3.25 a.m. on 19th February, 1917 of Acute Bronchitis (Cardiac Failure).

ALL 3 Australian SOLDIERS who died on that day WERE BURIED IN CODFORD - St. Mary's New Churchyard also know as Anzac Cemetery (There are 31 Australian WW1 SOldiers & 66 NZ Soldiers buried here).

Flanagan & McIlroy were buried on 22nd February & Lessels who served as Morton was buried on 23rd February.
