Corporal Charles William Dundon (Service No:2479) served with the British Territorial Forces (Private; Regimental No:1109; London Brigade RFA) briefly in 1913 before immigrating to Australia. Gunner Dundon enlisted in the AIF on 5 September 1914, and was attached to Divisional Ammunition Column on 19 October 1914 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Suez on board HMAT A25 Anglo-Egyptian. Gunner Dundon served at Gallipoli, and on 6 June 1916 received 'Special mention for acts of conspicuous gallantry' (NAA). WiA (GSW to thigh) at the Dardanelles on 22 June 1915, he embarked on 1 June 1916 from Alexandria for Marseilles on board the Haverford. In March that year he was promoted to Corporal and taken on strength with 11th Field Artillery Brigade and posted to 44 Battery. On 13 March 1918, Corporal Dundon embarked from England for Melbourne on board HT Tofua, and was attached to 11th Field Artillery Brigade at Discharge on 30 July 1918.

Charles was born in Cumberland, England in 1896, eldest of five children of Charles Dundon Snr (b1872 in London, England) and Mary Waters (b1870 in Staffordshire, England). Charles (a Mail Sorter) and Mary (a Domestic Servant) married in 1896 in Carlisle, and settled in London where they raised their family and Charles Snr was a Mail Sorter with the GPO.

Charles worked as Telegraph Messenger in London, and served in the Territorial Forces in 1913 - he discharged io immigrate, arriving in Melbourne in 1913 on board the Milburn. Charles was working in Melbourne as a Labourer when he enlisted in the Army in 1914, and following his Discharge in 1918 returned to Melbourne. Charles was a Woodworker in Melbourne in 1920 when he married Martha Emily Perriman (nee Murphy; b1879 in Wychitella, Victoria). Martha was a Divorcee with two young sons when she and Charles married - they settled in Melbourne where they raised their family (Charles adopted Martha's youngest son James). Charles worked as a Cabinetmaker. Martha died in 1966 and Charles died in 1974.
