Francis Wilfred Holt DYSON was born in Riga, Russia in 1882.

He was farming in the Craigieburn area when he enlisted in the AIF on 21/8/1914. He stated he was a widower with a young daughter.

He left Australia on 19/10/1914 as part of the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, aboard the HMAT Marere.

Francis served on Gallipoli, and in France with the 5th Division Ammunition Column holding the rank of Sergeant.

He was killed in action on 24/4/1918 during the Australians attack on Villers Bretonneux.

He is buried at the Bonnay Communal Cemetery near Corbie, France.

His daughter, Emma Winifred Dyson was living in the UK with relatives at Leeds.
