Henry Roy Edwards was born in Ballarat West. He was 21 years old, and working as a horse collar maker, when he enlisted. He only joined the 39th Battalion in late November 1916, before he was killed in action at near Armentieres 8 weeks later.

His slightly older brother 2015 Pte. Joseph Buxton Edwards 29th Battalion AIF died of wounds inflicted during the Fromelles battle, on 6 August 1916, aged 23.
