GREEN - On the 22nd March at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Elenor Richardson. 7 Chambers street, South Yarra, Private John Green, late A.I.F., 6th Battalion, aged 49 years.

Private John Green (Service No:3767) enlisted in the AIF on 20 August 1915 with 10th Infantry Battalion. Transferred to 6th Infantry Battalion on 22 October 1915, Private Green embarked from Melbourne for Egypt on 23 November 1915 on board HMAT A40 Ceramic. From Alexandria, Private Green embarked for Marseilles on 2 April 1916 on board the Ballarat. Private Green served in France and was evacuated to England where he was hospitalised before embarking from Portland for Melbourne on 12 November 1916 on board HT Wiltshire. Private Green was Discharged on 18 April 1917.
Born in 1871 at Mt Moliagul nr Tarngullia in Victoria, John was the sixth of eight children of John Green Snr (b1830 in Lancashire, England) and Elizabeth Taylor (b1841 in Hobart, Tasmania). John Snr and Elizabeth married in 1859 in Moliagul and lived there and in Dunolly and Tarnagulla.
John was a Hairdresser in Melbourne in 1905 when he married Mary Magdalene Hall (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria). Mary was committed to the Larundel Lunacy Asylum in the mid 1900s (where she died in 1960) and the children were Wards of the State. John died in 1920.
