103 years ago today, on the 27th November 1918, Private Herbert Allan (Allen) Bull, 35th Battalion (Reg No-380), also known as Bertie, labourer or pottery worker (H. Dean & Son, Mayfield, N.S.W.) from Bridge Street, Waratah, New South Wales, died of heart failure (emphysema, bronchopneumonia), age 23.

Born at Waratah, New South Wales ? ? 1895 to Herbert John (died 1927?) and Harriet (died 1949).  Bull nee Gane of 66 Chinchen Street, Islington, New South Wales and Cintra Road, Waratah, N.S.W., Bert enlisted January 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Older brother Stanley Gane (1st Australian Field Ambulance, Reg No-8621, DOW 6.7.1916) memorialised same location.

Younger brother Wilfred Percy (35th Battalion, Reg No-379, died 1960, Port Macquarie, N.S.W.) also served 1st A.I.F.

Herbert and brother Wilfred (Percy) entertained and presentation at the Parish Hall, Waratah.

Admitted to hospital 22.9.1918 (face burns, hands).

Bertie is resting at Tidworth Military Cemetery, United Kingdom. Plot C Grave 293A.

Mr. Bull’s name has been inscribed on the Book of Gold, Waratah-St Philip's Anglican Church Roll of Honour (photos, unveiled on the 8th April 1917, 65 names originally inscribed, 96 names now inscribed, 15 Fallen), Waratah Park Memorial Gates, Waratah Superior Public School Roll of Honour and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the Bull gravesite in remembrance of Bertie and brother Stanley’s supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country during The Great War - ANGLICAN 1-07. 75.
